Abstract:Reasoning is essential for autonomous driving (AD) in long-tail scenarios, where vehicles must apply commonsense knowledge, understand spatial relations, infer agent interactions, and make safe decisions. However, existing AD datasets and benchmarks mainly target perception, prediction, or planning, and provide limited supervision for reasoning over realistic long-tail driving scenes. We introduce nuReasoning, a large-scale real-world dataset and benchmark for reasoning-centric AD. Following the lineage of nuScenes and nuPlan, nuReasoning advances real-world AD datasets and benchmarks toward reasoning in long-tail driving scenarios. The dataset contains 20,000 clips, each 20 seconds long, collected across multiple cities, with synchronized multi-camera images, LiDAR data, HD maps, object annotations, and human-verified reasoning annotations spanning Spatial Reasoning, Decision Reasoning, and Counterfactual Reasoning. Unlike prior datasets that focus primarily on visual question answering, nuReasoning supports both reasoning evaluation and planning evaluation, enabling a direct study of how reasoning supervision affects driving performance. Experiments show that fine-tuning VLMs on nuReasoning substantially improves driving-specific question answering, while incorporating reasoning supervision into VLA training improves planning performance even when textual reasoning outputs are disabled at inference time. These results establish nuReasoning as a foundation for evaluating and improving robust, interpretable, reasoning-driven AD systems in realistic long-tail settings.
Abstract:Tourist mobility poses a distinct challenge for urban transportation planning. Unlike resident commuting, tourist travel is largely non-routine, attraction driven, and highly sensitive to trip purpose, travel season, and trip member composition. Existing approaches either measure aggregate tourist spatial patterns without generating individual schedules, or synthesize mobility without tourist specific structure such as trip duration conditioning, month varying attraction demand, and household co-travel rules. To address these challenges, we propose a four stage simulation framework combining month conditioned spatial priors derived from GPS and survey data, trip extent prediction from tourist demographics, distance feasible ward sequence assignment, and LLM-based activity chain generation under household and spatial constraints. GPS data are used only in privacy preserving aggregated form as month conditioned spatial priors, with no individual traces retained or exposed. Experiments on tourism in Tokyo demonstrate that the GPS based tourist cohort extraction recovers spatial visitation signatures consistent with survey references, and our framework produces demographically aligned synthetic schedules whose ward-level visitation shares align closely with both survey distributions and staypoint derived monthly visitation patterns. The results demonstrate the framework's effectiveness as a geographically grounded, demographically aware approach to tourist mobility modeling.
Abstract:Video generation models are increasingly used as world simulators for tasks like driving and robotic manipulation. What matters in these settings is not whether a single video looks right, but whether the model's output changes when its input changes. We test this by giving a model two prompts describing the same scene with one physical detail varied, and checking whether the two videos diverge the way physics predicts. The wording difference between the prompts is small by design, since only one variable is changed, but the correct physical difference is not. A model that misses this can still produce two videos that each look plausible individually, and existing benchmarks score videos one at a time and cannot detect this failure. We introduce What-If World, 319 such prompt pairs built on real frames from nuScenes and DROID, organized by a taxonomy of six physical variables shared across driving and manipulation. Each pair is scored with APEO, a four-part rubric checking whether each video follows its prompt (Adherence), is physically consistent (Physics), preserves the shared scene (Environment), and ends in the correct difference (Outcome). Across nine state-of-the-art models, no system exceeds 52% on the paired score, and open-source models cluster near 28%. Every model tested fails on a large fraction of causal interventions, indicating substantial room before these models can reliably support action-conditioned simulation or model-based planning. Where models do score well, performance appears to track the visual prominence of the intervention rather than the tractability of its underlying physics. Some visually subtle interventions score as low as 14.2%, while visually pronounced ones reach 40.4%.
Abstract:Low-Light Image Enhancement (LLIE) has long been a challenging problem in low-level vision, as insufficient illumination often leads to low contrast, detail loss, and noise. Recent studies show that deep learning-based Retinex theory can effectively decouple illumination and reflectance. However, existing methods frequently suffer from over-enhancement or color distortion, and often assume uniform noise or ideal lighting. To address these limitations, we propose InterLight, a novel framework that systematically excavates and operationalizes intrinsic illumination priors for LLIE.Our core insight is that robust enhancement requires not just estimating illumination, but constructing an illumination-aware pipeline. We first inject sensor-level illumination-response priors via physics-guided augmentation, then represent the degradation through adaptive prompts conditioned on the scene's latent illumination state. This explicit representation directly guides a luminance-gated intrinsic memory mechanism to selectively compensate for information loss, prioritizing reconstruction in dark regions while preserving fidelity in bright ones. Finally, the entire process is regularized by a self-supervised consistency objective that distills illumination-invariant features. By deeply exploiting intrinsic illumination priors, our method achieves clearer textures and more visually coherent enhancement results. Abstract:Data quality remains a critical bottleneck in developing capable, competitive models. Researchers have explored many ways to generate top quality samples. Some works rely on rejection sampling: generating lots of synthetic samples and filtering out low-quality samples. Other works rely on larger or closed-source models to extract model weaknesses, necessary skills, or a curriculum off of which to base data generation. These works have one common limitation: there is no quantitative approach to measure the impact of the generated samples on the downstream learner. Active learning literature provides exactly this, in the form of acquisition functions. Acquisition functions measure the informativeness and/or influence of data, providing interpretable, model-centric signals. Inspired by this, we propose AcquisitionSynthesis: using acquisition functions as reward models to train language models to generate higher-quality synthetic data. We conduct experiments on classic verifiable tasks of math, medical question-answering, and coding. Our experimental results indicate that (1) student models trained with AcquisitionSynthesis data achieve good performance on in-distribution tasks (2-7% gain) and is more robust to catastrophic forgetting, and (2) AcquisitionSynthesis models can generate data for other models and for low-to-high resource training paradigms. By leveraging acquisition rewards, we seek to demonstrate a principled path toward model-aware self-improvement that surpasses static datasets.
Abstract:Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication has emerged as a promising paradigm for autonomous driving, enabling connected agents to share complementary perception information and negotiate with each other to benefit the final planning. Existing V2X benchmarks, however, fall short in two ways: (i) open-loop evaluations fail to capture the inherently closed-loop nature of driving, leading to evaluation gaps, and (ii) current closed-loop evaluations lack behavioral and interactive diversity to reflect real-world driving. Thus, it is still unclear the extent of benefits of multi-agent systems for closed-loop driving. In this paper, we introduce MDrive, a closed-loop cooperative driving benchmark comprising 225 scenarios grounded in both NHTSA pre-crash typologies and real-world V2X datasets. Our benchmark results demonstrate that multi-agent systems are generally better than single-agent counterparts. However, current multi-agent systems still face two important challenges: (i) perception sharing enhances perceptions, but doesn't always translate to better planning; (ii) negotiation improves planning performance but harms it in complex and dense traffic scenarios. MDrive further provides an open-source toolbox for scenario generation, Real2Sim conversion, and human-in-the-loop simulation. Together, MDrive establishes a reproducible foundation for evaluating and improving the generalization and robustness of cooperative driving systems.
Abstract:Feedforward 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) often struggles in trajectory-based sparse-view driving scenes. Existing Gaussian repair methods mainly target optimization-based 3DGS, while diffusion-based repair is typically restricted to iterative refinement near observed viewpoints, leaving feedforward 3DGS repair underexplored. We propose ConFixGS, a plug-and-play method that learns to fix feedforward 3DGS with confidence-aware diffusion priors. Starting from a pretrained feedforward model, ConFixGS generates diffusion-enhanced local pseudo-targets and validates them through reprojection-based cross-checking against support views. The resulting dense confidence maps guide refinement, enhancing reliable details while suppressing hallucinated or inconsistent evidence. On Waymo, nuScenes, and KITTI, ConFixGS improves challenging novel view synthesis, with PSNR gains of up to 3.68 dB and FID reduced by nearly half. Our results highlight confidence-aware fusion of generative priors and support-view consistency as a key principle for robust feedforward 3D driving scene reconstruction.
Abstract:This paper presents a review for the LoViF Challenge on Real-World All-in-One Image Restoration. The challenge aimed to advance research on real-world all-in-one image restoration under diverse real-world degradation conditions, including blur, low-light, haze, rain, and snow. It provided a unified benchmark to evaluate the robustness and generalization ability of restoration models across multiple degradation categories within a common framework. The competition attracted 124 registered participants and received 9 valid final submissions with corresponding fact sheets, significantly contributing to the progress of real-world all-in-one image restoration. This report provides a detailed analysis of the submitted methods and corresponding results, emphasizing recent progress in unified real-world image restoration. The analysis highlights effective approaches and establishes a benchmark for future research in real-world low-level vision.
Abstract:Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models offer a promising autonomous driving paradigm for leveraging world knowledge and reasoning capabilities, especially in long-tail scenarios. However, existing VLA models often struggle with the high latency in action generation using an autoregressive generation framework and exhibit limited robustness. In this paper, we propose SpanVLA, a novel end-to-end autonomous driving framework, integrating an autoregressive reasoning and a flow-matching action expert. First, SpanVLA introduces an efficient bridge to leverage the vision and reasoning guidance of VLM to efficiently plan future trajectories using a flow-matching policy conditioned on historical trajectory initialization, which significantly reduces inference time. Second, to further improve the performance and robustness of the SpanVLA model, we propose a GRPO-based post-training method to enable the VLA model not only to learn from positive driving samples but also to learn how to avoid the typical negative behaviors and learn recovery behaviors. We further introduce mReasoning, a new real-world driving reasoning dataset, focusing on complex, reasoning-demanding scenarios and negative-recovery samples. Extensive experiments on the NAVSIM (v1 and v2) demonstrate the competitive performance of the SpanVLA model. Additionally, the qualitative results across diverse scenarios highlight the planning performance and robustness of our model.
Abstract:Open-loop (OL) to closed-loop (CL) gap (OL-CL gap) exists when OL-pretrained policies scoring high in OL evaluations fail to transfer effectively in closed-loop (CL) deployment. In this paper, we unveil the root causes of this systemic failure and propose a practical remedy. Specifically, we demonstrate that OL policies suffer from Observational Domain Shift and Objective Mismatch. We show that while the former is largely recoverable with adaptation techniques, the latter creates a structural inability to model complex reactive behaviors, which forms the primary OL-CL gap. We find that a wide range of OL policies learn a biased Q-value estimator that neglects both the reactive nature of CL simulations and the temporal awareness needed to reduce compounding errors. To this end, we propose a Test-Time Adaptation (TTA) framework that calibrates observational shift, reduces state-action biases, and enforces temporal consistency. Extensive experiments show that TTA effectively mitigates planning biases and yields superior scaling dynamics than its baseline counterparts. Furthermore, our analysis highlights the existence of blind spots in standard OL evaluation protocols that fail to capture the realities of closed-loop deployment.
